My first kitchen, tiny kitchen to put it bluntly, had a countertop of the size of an average cutting board. It was about 5 x 10 inches, I never measured it though. Since I just started out at that time I had no cutting board yet and used therefore the countertop as cutting board. Well, during all my cooking activities I was always in need for more counter space.
My solution back then would have been a over stove/over sink cutting board. What an ingenious idea! You place it where you need it and where you have place for it – over the sink or over the stove or on your tiny table. You use it when you need it! And when you don’t need it, you can easily put it away thanks to its thin size. A perfect solution for tiny kitchens may it be in a small apartment, RV, houseboat or tiny house.
As often I found great models of over stove/over sink cutting boards among RV-specific appliances and furniture. Some of the here listed models are specifically made for RV kitchens, but of course they can be used for every tiny living place.
The great thing about over stove/over sink cutting boards is that you can utilize them in numerous ways, also outside the kitchen. Some place their BBQ ingredients on it and carry it to the grill in their backyard – a cutting board as a tray. Perfect.
Some of the here presented models have a design with raised edges like the More Counter Space in White. This allows work with food that releases liquid. All over stove/over sink cutting boards are easy to clean. Working on them doesn’t dull the knives, as the manufacturers emphasize.
Some of the existing stove covers aren’t made for usage as a cutting board. In this case you might consider a flat model without feet or a countertop extension that you need to install on the side of your countertop hanging flat down when not in use.
It’s wise to measure the place where you think you would use your over stove/over sink cutting board as well as it is important to take a close look at the measurements of the cutting board itself before you choose your preferred model.
Also take into consideration what style and design would fit your kitchen the best. Is a black cutting board really going to enhance the look of your kitchen or would a natural Bamboo look be better? Thanks to the great variety of design and material of over stove/over sink cutting boards you can easily find your perfect model.
Bamboo Over the Sink/Stove Cutting Board
- Bamboo wood as renewable resource
- Natural color, not a stain
- Easy to wash with mild soap and water, dry thoroughly
- Set it right over your sink and slide all of your food right onto a platter
This is an incredible space saver. Sturdy and lightweight. It fits perfectly over half of my range as well as my kitchen sink, adding extra work space when I need it and is slim enough to tuck away easily when I don’t. A must-have for small kitchens!
I used to use the metal burner covers. These look so much nicer and are sturdier. They fit my burner covers perfectly. When I need the burners, I move the bamboo cutting board on my counter and use it there.
Fits perfect over my gas stove without having to remove the grills, multi functional for chopping/prepping and putting platters on top to create more counter space!
More Counter Space
- High-impact ABS plastic
- Will not dull your knives
- White or black
- Easy to clean and sanitize
- Adds more than 4 square feet of usable counter space to any kitchen
- This product is for electric coil stoves and glass top stoves, not for gas stoves
This is a great product for my small kitchen. It really does provide extra counter space where I had none before. It looks pretty nice. Plenty of room on this board for large jobs and easy enough to just prop up at the back of the stove or set alongside when you need to cook something.
Just perfect! Fits an electric stove just as described. So much more space.
Camco Stovetop Cover
- Solid oak-finish hardwood
- Includes a bonus flexible cutting mat
- Silences annoying stovetop rattles
- Adds valuable counter space to your RV
- Non-toxic gloss finish for extra moisture protection
This is a nice oak cutting board that really does stay in place when you drive. Even when making good time on 3rd world dirt roads that trashed many other things in the RV this top never budged or rattled.
We all went camping together and it does a great job of adding an additional cutting and working surface on top of the oven. It is well built and solid.
This thing is awesome! The oak finish will go with most mid-range wood finishes on your cabinetry, and this thing is thick and solid and has a nice finish to it. Eliminates shaking noise from burner grills, and gives a lot of much needed extra counter space.
Camco Countertop Extension
- Solid oak finish hardwood
- Pulls up easily
- Secured by a metal drop-leaf table brace
- Adds an extra 12″ to your counter top
- Super-hard, non-toxic gloss finish
- Mounting hardware included
I installed this in out 34′ toy hauler that had almost no counter space if you were to use the stove. This small folding extension may not see like much but when you don’t have much to begin with any extra counter space is a plus!
Great addition of much needed counter space to our RV. Installation was basically straight forward and fit to the over hang surface. Also allowed the blank underneath the shelf to be converted to bread basket or box.
Even though the counter is installed at the doorway, it folds down flat against the cabinet when not in use.
Glass Burner Cover Cutting Board
- Tempered Glass
- Black marble look
- 4 heat-resistant non-slip silicone coated feet
- Use as a serving tray or for a little more space in the kitchen
- Fits over most standard sinks and stovetop spaces
I use this over my sink and it gives me much needed “counter” space in my small kitchen. This is easy to clean and easy to move when necessary. It is glass and I am cautious when placing anything on it that is hot…warm is not a problem.
I love this for the stove, gives me extra counter space when I’m cooking on one side of the stove. Fits perfectly over two burners.
Use this on my stove to add a bit of extra counter space.
