What is the tiniest tool box you can think of? The Swiss Army Knife! Alright, let’s talk Swiss today! Well, not the Swiss language, there are four of them anyway that are daily spoken in Switzerland. Did you know that? Swiss speak German, French, Italian and Rhaetian. Most of the Swiss speak therefore several languages fluently, like me with 5 active languages. But that’s not my present theme. Today I want to present the famous Swiss Army Knife.
The reason why everybody who lives in a tiny home would need a Swiss Army Knife is that there is always something to do, to install, to mount in a tiny place that requires tools. Several tools! Or one tool that has them all in one. The Swiss Army Knife. Honestly, it should be called Swiss Army Tool, because the knife is just one small part of the whole thing.
Well, there are so many different sizes of Swiss Army Knives out there that you might have a hard time to choose. These are the available sizes:
- Small Pocket Knife with 6 functions
- Medium Pocket Knife with 14 or 16 functions
- Large Pocket Knife with 21 functions
- Sport Tools like Golf tool or Bike tool and others
- Swisscard Lite Pocket Tool
The ladder is what I have. It’s a tiny very thin little box that holds a nail file, a screwdriver, a toothpick, tweezers, a pressurized ballpoint pen, a pin, an emergency blade and scissors. The whole thing is just 0.75” thick. I can put it in my wallet. Perfect. The model that I found on Amazon is a little more developed and has even more cool features.
It may sound like a cliché but actually no Swiss goes on a hike or even just a picnic without his Swiss Army Knife. That’s no joke. I was choosing among all the available models the Fieldmaster Pocket Knife. It even comes in different designs. It features these 15 implements:
- Large Blade
- Small Blade
- Phillips Screwdriver
- Can Opener
- Small Phillips Screwdriver
- Bottle Opener
- Large Screwdriver
- Wire Stripper
- Key Ring
- Multi-purpose Hook (Parcel Carrier)
- Wood Saw
Isn’t this just amazing what sorts of tools you can have in something as small as a Pocket Knife. It is ideal for everyday adventures, projects in the yard or indoors. This multi-tool is made of high-quality steel and should last for a lifetime. Wow, I sound like a commercial. But it’s true.
Nevertheless, here are some care tips for your new multi-tool: Although it’s made to resist corrosions you might need to resharpen it. It’s recommended to do that with a whetstone. If the blades begin to stick together after various applications you can just open and close the blades in warm water several times. Once they have dried, it is recommended, to apply a small drop of oil between the blade or tool shank and the spring. Never put Swiss Army Knives in the dishwasher.
Oh, and something else before I get to the Product Reviews. You might have heard it at some point that in Europe there is the saying that you shouldn’t give a knife as present because it will cut the friendship, meaning it will end the friendship. Well, I don’t know if it’s true – because I just didn’t want to put it to the test. But! A Swiss Army Knife is a big exception. With this you don’t gift somebody with a knife. It’s rather a whole toolbox than just a knife. So, even if you watch out for sayings like this one you still can gift a Swiss Army Knife to your friends.
I hope that you will find out how practical and functional a Swiss Army Knife is so you might ask yourself how you could be without it all this time. If you’re interested in other sizes, just click on the Amazon link below and you can find all available models.
Victorinox Swiss Army Fieldmaster Pocket Knife
- Comes with 15 functions
- Stainless steel construction in polished red
- Compact design
- Size: 3.58“L x 0.787“H
- Weight: 3.5 oz.
This one has the perfect set of tools, in my opinion. The scissors, most people will want. The Victorinox saw is outstanding. It is also good that the can opener and bottle opener are separate tools. The Victorinox can opener works wonderfully. The most used tool for me though is the large screwdriver tip on the bottle opener.
Everything I need for lighter home use, camping, hiking, glove box, etc. You cannot go wrong with a true Swiss Army knife as long as you pick a model that suits your needs.
Has everything needed and no useless corkscrew! The saw actually works better then my Leatherman. Not sure if it is sharper or different blade type, but it is great quality. Kind of funny but I originally thought the hook thing was gimmicky but in reality it is one of the most useful tools on the knife.

All things considered, this Swisscard Lite is a great item to keep in anyone’s briefcase, wallet or purse. I’ll be getting more of these as gender-neutral gifts.
I have carried one of these for about 15 years. I cannot tell you how many times it has come in handy.
This thing is AMAZING. I take it with me everywhere I go. It’s lightweight and thin, so it’s great for putting in a dress-shirt breast pocket or dress pants. I use it at least 3 times a week.
