American Style for a Tiny Home

wall26 3 Piece Wall Art American FlagWhen I moved many years ago from Switzerland to the U.S. I discovered the American style for interior design and was immediately drawn to it. I like its relaxed approach to living. It emanates a spirit of freedom by appreciating heritage and American classic design styles.

What is it that makes the American style so interesting and fascinating for tiny homes as well as for all homes? I found some answers and ideas of how to add American style to a tiny home.

The American style of decorating a home is all about mixing. Mixing new with old, patriotic elements with globally inspired features, classic elements with modern elements. The common base is to feel free to create your own very unique style that works for you independently of any public opinion.

This last point is extremely important when it comes to American style interior design. It displays that confidence that takes risks instead of following rules. It is more playful than strict and allows for a personal expression through the choice of accessories and furniture.

Everything floral fits into the American style as well as furniture made in American style that encompasses simplicity and elegance like an end table made of solid wood. A furniture like this fits into every tiny home and brings with it even some added storage spaces.

Another great way to bring the American style to a tiny home is through wall art, the most space saving decoration idea ever.

As always I encourage you to measure the space where you want to add your new American style element or furniture and compare your measurements with the given dimensions.

What a great review of American style. I hadn’t thought about it but found my self nodding and agreeing.

  2. I never thought of “American” style. Probably because I’m used to it. Thanks for putting your impressions into words. I do like the eclectic mix. 🙂

  3. One does not normally think of American Style as being tiny homes. The extravagance of the pre 2009 crash led to so called mega mansions. It is only since the crash and the baby boomers loss of a good share of their retirements savings that Americans have adjusted to appreciating the value of “tiny spaces.” Personally, we are big fans of minimizing and getting rid of “stuff” and replacing it with experiences. Interesting post.

I have an eclectic decorating style. I never thought about it quite this way before, but maybe it’s a typical American style.
